Journey to Planet X
DIRECTED BY JOSH KOURY AND MYLES KANE
USA, 2012, 78 MIN
A low-budget green-screen extravaganza that will delight all you fantasy fans out there. (You know who you are!) Troy and Eric are two South Florida scientists by day who make sci-fi films as a hobby by night. But now they’re ready to get serious about their movie making. This entertaining documentary follows these two forty-something friends as they turn their vision for “Planet X” into a ticket to Hollywood (they hope). With a cast of volunteers, hand-made costumes, and props from Home Depot, it’s nerdy DIY Sci-Fi at its most hilarious. Watch them turn a sand dune into a moonscape and a local supermarket freezer into a dark and foreboding cave. With a cast and crew of friends, family, and whoever they can get to help them, they form an unlikely community of like-minded adventurers. The creative journey these best buddies take to “Planet X” reveals the passion that inspires filmmakers … even if they are amateurs.
