Perseverance: Women In The Industry
Sponsored by Women in Film & Television—Florida
Kathryn Bigelow may have become the first woman ever to win a Best Director Oscar® at the Academy Awards® a couple of years ago for The Hurt Locker, but women continue to have a difficult time cracking the “Celluloid Ceiling.” A recent study indicated that of the top 250 domestic grossing films, women held a total of only 16% of the key behind-the-scenes positions, including 2% of the cinematographers, 7% of the directors, and 10% of the writers. Breaking into the business is tough for anyone, but what are the unique challenges facing women at the present time? A stellar panel of female visionaries will discuss their personal experiences and what it means to be a successful woman working in movies today. Panelists include actress/director Shannah Laumeister (Bullets Over Broadway/Bert Stern: Original Madman), editor Sabine Hoffman (Saving Face, “Ferry Tales”), award-winning shorts filmmaker Lauren Wolkstein (“Cigarette Candy,” “The Strange Ones”), Anne Watters (Program Director of Film, Full Sail University), and moderator Sylvia Caminer, Emmy® Award-winning director/producer (An Affair of the Heart, Tanzania: A Friendship Journey).
This event is FREE and open to the public
