The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best

DIRECTED BY RYAN O’NAN
USA, 2011, 97 MIN

A failing singer-songwriter in a quarter-life crisis decides to hit the road with a self-appointed music revolutionary in Ryan O’Nan’s impressive directorial debut, which he also wrote and stars in. As if the struggle to find his purpose in life wasn’t hard enough, Alex (O’Nan) gets dumped by his girlfriend, kicked out of his band, and fired from his day job at an almost laughable real estate office all in one week. When a high energy, avant-garde musician, Jim (Weston), approaches him with a barely convincing tour, he has no good reason to turn him down. Pretty and adventurous Cassidy (Kebbel) takes the front seat as their manager, and the trio attempts to navigate though the dangerous waters of love, heartbreak, friendship, and family. Attesting to the youthful ideology of living for yourself no matter how much the world tells you not to, this poignant dramatic musical comedy will surprise you with its maturity and great “Shins meets Sesame Street” tunes. Michael Weston and Arielle Kebbel co-star, with appearances by Jason Ritter, Wilmer Valderrama, Christopher McDonald, Andrew McCarthy, and Academy Award®-winner Melissa Leo.
