SOUTHEAST PREMIERE

Wind power is clean. Wind power is cheap. Wind power will create thousands of high-paying jobs because EVERYBODY loves wind power! But what happens when wind power comes to your town? That’s the question driving WINDFALL, a smart, fearless film that dares to question the party line about this energy savior. The setting is Meredith, a poor rural town in Upstate New York. Power companies offer residents contracts to install windmills on their properties. The town board’s research churns up reports of incessant “whomping” sounds, endless strobe-effects, and worrisome health issues like tinnitus, chronic fatigue, and heart problems for those living near the 400-foot tall towers. Meredith’s residents are split in a bitter feud between economically-challenged locals willing to take the checks and those who’d rather maintain the area’s bucolic ambiance. With wind development in the U.S. growing at a reported 39% annually, WINDFALL is an eye-opener for anyone who believes wind power is a community-approved and universally supported solution for renewable energy.
