If you have never heard of New Zealand’s The Topp Twins, this is your opportunity to get acquainted with the world’s only comedic, country singing, dancing, and yodeling lesbian twin sister act. Now considered to be Kiwi national treasures, Lynda and Jool Topp began their careers over two decades ago as a spunky, outspoken country duo who lent their voices and support to causes like Nuclear Free Zealand, Maori Land Rights, and Kiwi Gay Rights. Raised on a dairy farm in rural New Zealand by conservative parents, The Topp Twins incorporated their love of the farm with their love of music and never altered the formula. Winner of the People’s Choice (audience) Award for Best Documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival, THE TOPP TWINS: UNTOUCHABLE GIRLS is the extraordinary fifty-year journey of twin sisters who grew up loving where they were from but also wanting to make it a better place. Through first their music and later their comedic character portrayals, they have entertained and enlightened a nation. Thankfully, now it’s our turn!
