MID-AUGUST LUNCH is a warm and lighthearted comedy about good food, feisty ladies, and unlikely friendships. Gianni is lost in the mire of being a middle-aged drunk who lives with his 93 year-old mother. As the debts continue to mount, the broke Gianni—armed with only a wry sense of humor and a glass of wine—must figure out a way to make ends meet. As Pranzo di Ferragosto (Feast of the Assumption) approaches, the manager of Gianni’s apartment complex tells him that if Gianni takes care of the manager’s mother over the weekend of the Feast, his debts will be forgiven. Then the manager shows up with his auntie… and Gianni’s doctor asks if he can add his mother into the mix… Soon Gianni has his hands full with a lively room of elderly mamas, all of them ready to share good food and good friendship during the very Roman holiday. Written and directed by Italy’s Gianni di Gregorio—who also plays the lead role—MID- AUGUST LUNCH tells a simple, charming, and heartwarming tale about feasting and friendship.
