Bomber

An elderly English couple set out on a road trip to Germany and convince their aimless thirty-something son to drive them. The father has dark reasons for wanting to visit a particular German village, the son is frustrated by having to ditch his demanding girlfriend in order to play chaperone, and the mother is fixated on silly museums along the way. Forced into such close quarters, the family’s long-simmering resentments boil up, and each member of the trio must a find new way of communicating with the other two. In his feature directorial debut, filmmaker Paul Cotter (Estes Ave, FFF 2005, and Last Hand Standing, FFF 2004) takes on the thorny subject matter of family dynamics in an insightful, funny, and profoundly moving way. Cotter’s penetrating screenplay is supported by heart-rending performances from veteran British actors Benjamin Whitrow, Eileen Nicholas, and relative newcomer Shane Taylor. Not your typical road trip movie, BOMBER tackles complicated emotions and refuses to take the easy way out.
