SOUTHEAST PREMIERE
Her name is Cara-Ethyl, and as if that weren’t enough, she’s overweight—maybe even fat. But wait! It’s also her 18th birthday, and the only one who comes to the party is the pizza guy, who has his own problems. But hers seem worse, so Matt offers to take Cara-Ethyl, who has vowed to stay up all night anyway, along on his deliveries. During the ride, each is taken by the other, he by her intelligence and humor, she by his slacker ways and broad acceptance of the world. Their journey provides a coming of age for both, as well as a chance for us to spend time with people who are more unique than they know, yet familiar to us all. Directed with gentle skill and wry poignancy by Mark Christopher (54), Pizza stars newcomer Kylie Sparks and Ethan Embry, with supporting turns from Julie Hagerty and Judah Friedlander.
